scar in lungs!
well, I started learning swimming 2 months back. Recently, I caught cough & cold and when on being advised by doc, I got my chest X-ray done which revealed that there is a scar on my lungs which is because of some infection which occured 6 yrs back. So doc said that it might pose problems in long breathing and advised to do some breathing exercises on regular basis.
I wanted to know whether this is a hindrance in swimming. Shall I continue swimming or first find ways to get rid of this scar, if possible?

Thanks in advance
Denis!

RE: scar in lungs!
Well if its a scar, its not something you just "get rid of."

I would look to see a physical therapist or someone with medical training to help guide you through it. They will probably give you breathing exercises, and all kinds of techniques to help safely retrain your lungs to health.

It would be very dangerous in this case to get help from somebody on the Internet who does not know the true implications of the injury nor proper treatments.

RE: scar in lungs!
I know my wife's lungs are scarred from having pneumonia and ARDS about six years ago. She has gotten better through working out and swimming. She and I both do simple exercises like holding our breath and swimming a lap or more under water. This helps slowly expand the lungs over time so you have more lung capacity. I also have asthma but I've learned my limitations and how to work around them.

Darden - I'd rather be relaxing in a hot tubs Nashville than working.
