New Swimmer looking for tips
I am a relatively new swimmer and was looking for tips from more advanced swimmers. My biggest concern as of now is that my kicking is terrible. Using a kick board or just trying to swim with my legs i get virtually no-where, while my buddy doesn't need his arms and can move like a fish. All he says is, "feels natural". So i was hoping for some advice/tips/workouts to strengthen/improve my kicking. Thanks for your help.

don't be too concerned about the propulsiveness of your kick right now, as a bit of a novice the coordination of the leg movements and stuff can be a little tough to do perfectly right from the start. the goal of your kick at this level of swimming is to prevent your legs from sinking and slowing you down when you swim. the two main things to remember are to kick from your HIPS, not your knees. i used to kick from my knees and my kick sucked. and also to point your toes. it creates a lot of drag if your feet are pointed towards the bottom of the pool.

Keep your feet close together, focus on the downkick, don't let more than your ankles come out of the water, and keep your butt high out of the water.
