onehundredpushups + swimming
I am planning on doing a push up workout that is 3 times a week. I am doing it to build shoulder, back, and overall strength for both in the pool and out. However, I am a bit worried this will hinder my swimming due to being tired out. It seems like this 100pu plan is not very strenuous and I still could maintain good swimming practice, what do you guys think?

here is the plan:

My swimming goal is to pass a swim test that is 350 meter freestyle in under 10 minutes. I am a beginner swimmer but I am already getting alot better. I am also required to do a 50meter underwater /w 3 breaths. A 25 meter underwater with no breaths. Also, I need to tread for 10mins.

I am thinking this pushup plan will aide me with swimming (somewhat). I have 3 and a half months to prep. for this swim test. I do not expect this workout to greatly contribute to my results on the swim test but it looks like it might help a bit. What do you guys think I should do?

Thank you for any input!

Pushups and swimming don't really have much correlation. The pushups shouldn't even tire your swimming muscles that much, but if the swimming test means a lot to you, I suggest you wait until AFTER you pass the test and THEN do the pushups. Pushups are mainly your pectorals which aren't a REALLY important muscle for swimming. And also, if you can't swim 350 meters freestyle in under 5 minutes yet, then I really suggest just swimming to get better at swimming. Weight training isn't really necessary until a certain point. First focus on your technique and efficiency. You might also want to focus on your underwater dolphin kick as 25m underwater might be a challenge at your level.

Push ups really work your shoulders no? I understand your point and totally agree with you. I need alot of pool time.. wish I had a good place to swim with better hours.
