Hydration
okay, so i'm actually not a huge fan of water. like, the drinkable kind. i umm don't like how it tastes, as wierd as that sounds. and i really don't drink sports drinks, as i'm into really healthy eating, so no sugary fluids. however, i really love milk. seriously, i probably drink a half gallon a day. is it all the same, i mean, aren't i still hydrating? or should i force myself to drink water? also, what exactly are the benefits?

RE: Hydration
I wouldn't exactly recommend drinking milk too much when exercising, it is hard on your stomach and can cause problems. You really should be drinking water, if anything drink some gatorade. Of course, water is still better because it doesn't have all the sugar.

RE: Hydration
Sports drinks, definitely, at least a half hour before you swim. Drinking too much water makes you feel bloated. You need that sugar for energy along with the salts and minerals found in genuine sports drinks. It will help you avoid muscle cramps, since it also promotes oxygen into your respiration cycle, help you keep warm on cold days, and helps you perspire on hot days. Plus it tastes better than plain water.

RE: Hydration
Drinking excess milk will definitely cause stomach problems as milk has extra calories and it gives u fat which is not in water. Drinking water is recommended as water is occupying 60% of human body mass and necessary for almost all the vital metabolic functions.

RE: Hydration
Although what the replies said are all correct, drinking milk after swimming or working out, especially chocolate milk, will cause your muscles to relax and so they won't be so tensed up. However keep in mind that milk has more calories and fat than water, you should always keep yourself hydrated through your practice, with water that is.

RE: Hydration
Especially in summers when it comes to and going for swimming certainly one should keep on taking intake of water as extensive workout may result in dehydration.....

RE: Hydration
If you don't like the taste or lack of taste of water then put some flavoring in it. I usually like lemon in my water. Natural fruit flavors are probably better like lemon or lime or even fresh squeezed orange juice. With the powders, just be careful not to use too much because they usually have lots of sugar in them. Some sugar is good but not a lot. I usually forget to stay hydrated when I'm swimming in pools Nashville. Probably because I'm in the water and don't realize how much water I've sweated out or lost.

RE: Hydration
Be careful with milk. I use to drink several glasses a day until I became lactose and tolerant. There are some flavoring packets you can use to mix it up with your water. Maybe that could help.
