RE: Worst injury
-Sprained my toes and fingers when catching them between the lane divider disks.
-Hit my head on the wall while doing the backstroke.
-Overstrained my eye sockets by making my goggle air compression too tight.

RE: Worst injury

RE: Worst injury
Any good backstroker knows that broken fingers are part of the game...

Josh Schneider (member of USA Swimming National Team) broke his hand while finishing the 100 free at National this summer in Irvine. I've seen broken ankles on flipturns, but those are usually from people who slam their legs over unnecessarily hard because they think it makes them look cool.

Those are the most severe "instant impact" injuries I've heard about...The most brutal long term injuries:

Mary Beck developed hyperthyroidism (supposedly from overtraining) and thus has to take horomone replacement therapy for the rest of her life.

The worst is when swimming sort of highlights genetic problems with shoulder joints that otherwise would have never manifested themselves. Makes them nearly inpossible to fix in the most taxed part of the body during swimming.

RE: Worst injury
mine would be severely inflamed shoulders (inside) meaning I couldn't even do a weak breast stroke pull without my arm shutting down due to the nerve wrecking sensation.

RE: Worst injury
Swimming is not an easy thing to do. It requires proper guidance and training by the trainers. Thanks for sharing.

RE: Worst injury
Proper care must be taken when kids learn swimming. Otherwise it can result into worst injuries.
