Interesting Discussion: Does sex before a meet affect your performance?
This is a long time question that a lot of athletes still aren't sure the answer to:

Does sex affect how you swim in a meet?

There are two scenarios that I can think of:

1) Sex releases testosterone into your body, increasing performance.
2) Sex releases testosterone into your body, so less is available actually decreasing performance.

Scientists have been arguing this, and the results seem more psychological than anything. What are your experiences, and what do you think is the answer?

Mature discussion only.

Ooooooh boy, this should be interesting. I'm not a scientist, but to me it's something not to mess around with. Sure, if it's good, it can be relaxing. If it's not, however, it can be frustrating and mess with your head. Or if the girl wants to cuddle afterward, thus interrupting your sleep. Or if you get hickeys.

So not sure about the physiology of it, but psychologically, it seems like something I wouldn't want to mess with.

Then again, the USOC sends its athletes with 100,000 condoms, and Phelps is notorious for hooking up with his teammates at the Olympics, so.....

Sex DOES help. It increases testosterone production for both genders. It is proved that having sex the night before competitions etc. will probably increase your performance, but don't forget to sleep also Big Smile

This is a good one. Sex helps if its an incentive if I win or have met my goal. It seems like personal preference and what we believe would help us the most. Perception is reality.
