RE: Lose weight
After swimming competitively for 14 years, and receiving a full ride scholarship to swim at University of Georgia (which I had to turn down because of shoulder surgeries), it is my opinion that swimming is much easier on your body than running. The motion of tearing up the joints in your legs isn't there from compaction. I personally have found better weight loss in swimming. But I'm also swimming 5000-7000 yards a day.. It honestly depends on how much you swim and the intervals you swim at. The weight loss element in swimming is doing harder and harder intervals which drives your heart rate through the roof, therefore burning more calories. It's a personal choice but I'm rather impartial to swimming.

RE: Lose weight
I much prefer swimming to running! Swimming is such great exercise because it gets your whole body moving. Swimming is also easy on your joints which makes it a great activity for any person, any age, to loose weight!

RE: Lose weight
I came across this article on what looks like a new swimming site. I found some really helpful tips about diet and stuff while swimming; just stuff to build on to what this article mentioned. Happy swimming! http://www.lanemates.com/articles
