Hi all! Agent Okie here from the small town of Claremore Oklahoma. I recently started the Zero to 1 mile swim program two weeks ago. Recently had my 47th birthday, have 3 beautiful daughters and one awesome grandson. Having a grandson makes you think about how long you will be around to enjoy the additional ones and what poor shape you are in. I decided I needed to do something and have always loved swimming. Swam recreationally as a kid along with some bluff diving, but nothing organized.

Started searching for a forum or two to learn more about swimming. Starting this program made me realize that I don't know how to swim properly and I really don't know how to breathe while swimming. Doing lots of research and learning as I go along. I am really looking forward to swimming that first mile in just a little more than 5 weeks.

This looks like the place to be to learn new things and I am really excited to be here!

Hello swimmers!!

Just 7 weeks ago I added swimming to my exercise regimen and have been swimming a half mile 5x a week. I swim at my gym and in the winter they have a dome up which converts the pool into an indoor pool. Last week they took the dome down to prepare for summer and since then I've been having a problem with running into the lane markers. I don't understand why this is happening because it never happened when the dome was up. Is it from the wind? Is it because I don't have a beam on the ceiling to stare at and keep me centered?! How can I stop this?! It really ruins my swim!

Thank you!

Hello! I'm putting together a Wilkes-Barre Triathlon relay team for this year's triathlon on 8/18. I'm running (can do the 11k in about 75-78 mins - short legs!), and I have a cyclist who regularly bikes 25-30 miles several times per week. We're looking for a swimmer who can do the mile swim in about 26-32 minutes. Overall, we'd love a "middle of the pack" or "front-of-the-back of the pack" finish. It's our first triathlon, so more than anything, we're looking to push ourselves and have a great time!

Please email Alicia.A.Magda@gmail.com if interested.

Thanks!

Head pressure during and after swimming! HELP!

Hi,

I used to swim competitively when I was younger and then had a few years break, and now I have started again.

I swim about three times a week (I'm currently training for an open water swim) but have noticed an extremely uncomfortable pain in my head while swimming.

I've never had this before, but for the past two times that I've swum it's been almost unbearable.

Here's the situation: I jump in the pool to do 750m of non-stop freestyle. The first thing I notice is that after about 400m of swimming, pressure will start to build in my head (like a bad headache). The pressure will keep building for the rest of my swim and progressively get more painful. At the end of my swim I feel slightly dizzy and the pressure in my head feels like my head is about to explode. It's not like the usual pounding that many swimmers/athletes get after exercising. The pressure is most apparent near my forehead. I usually hop out of the pool at the end of my swim and sit down because the pain is too much. I have to keep my head down because holding it up straight increases the pain. Also, there is no pain in my ears of sinus so I don't think it's got anything to do with that.

I think the head pressure could be caused by one of these things:
1. Goggles too tight
2. Cap too tight
3. Dehydration
4. Blood rushing to head
5. ???

I'm really not sure what it could be.. if anybody has any helpful tips that would be very very much appreciated as I love swimming and don't want this to ruin it!

So I've been swimming for awhile now and my whole swimming career i've been racing in a Speedo Endurance. Anyways I've decided it's probably a good idea to get into the world of technical suits. What are your guys' thoughts on the best suit? I was looking for something preferably under the $200 range as I'm only a teenager and likely won't be able to get my parents to spend much more on a suit. As well, where can I find suits for cheap? Thanks

This may sound crazy, but I think one day in the near future I will spend the day at the pool.

I want to be able to do 10km in 1 day. I figured it out, and I am guessing around 5-7 hours depending on how quickly I tire.

I figure that while I am there, every few km, I would take a break and do some diving.

For anyone who has ever done this much swimming, I have a few questions:

1) what to eat prior to doing this?

2) I plan on 12 hours at the pool. what should I eat for lunch?

3) How do I break up the monotony? 10,000m will drag on if it is the same thing.

Hello.

I am a 32 year old guy who should have been born as a fish.

As a kid, I could not swim.

In HS I joined the swim team. I was always in last place, but my times improved.

As an Adult, I joined a Masters team. My times improved. I even set a record! (no one raced that event since they kept records of it.)

I have swam:
50m, free, back, breast, fly
100m free, back, breast, IM
800m free
1500m free

I love to just jump in the water and swim around. I was bored one day, and with a friend in a boat, swam 4km in a lake nonstop. Another time, I attempted to swim 9km, but we left too late in the day, and we did not bring lights. (I will do this again)

I scuba dive.

I do not like using a snorkel, but I do swim around and surface for air.

I live in Victoria BC, but have lived in ON and NS.
