Hi,
I've just signed up to this website because I wanted to see if any other swimmers out there could help me out. My times have been dropping by about 2-5 secs lately and I haven't been getting any faster for about 5 months. Coaches keep telling me that all swimmers go through stages like this or is it my new coach Mike or simply because I'm not growing?
Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am 45 years old and swim 4-5 times a week. I have been swimming as my only exercise for a year or so. I have been wondering if I need to start doing some other exercises besides swimming. My main goal is just to stay in shape as I get older. I swim 2300-2600 yards and love swimming. I hate the idea of lifting weights, sounds so boring. Running is not an option due to bad knees. Is there a good reason to do something else besides swim in order to stay in shape over the long run? I only have 4-5 hours a week so I can't add weight lifting unless I dropped some swimming from my schedule. Thoughts?

I swam for ten years, from elementary all the way through high school. I was okay, but got burned out halfway through high school. All my friends were on the team, so I stuck with it, but not for the swimming.

Now I'm an adult with two kids, and I thought I was getting back into pretty good shape after having them. Then I decided to try swimming again, since I've been missing it for the last few years.

Oh, I am NOT in shape at all. Not for swimming. I need some serious help in figuring out good workouts. I thought this might be a good place to start. I forgot how much I love it, and I really want to be able to stick with it!

Hey I'm a swimmer in high school (Junior). I've been swimming since my freshman year and my time in the 100 free is :57.45 and my time in the 50 is :26.21. I kind of slacked off my freshman and sophomore years but now I actually care. I will be working hard in the offseason. I would LOVE to be on our top 400 free relay next year which has a time of about 3:23. Do you think that it's possible for me to go a :51/:50 by next year? I'll have about 9-10 months. Any thoughts?

Hi! I am a competitive swimmer on the high school level and my specialty is obviously the butterfly. I swim it in the 200m Medley Relay (31.75sec) I pissed my coach off the other day so he made me swim the 100m fly at my one meet and I was fine for the first 50m (I was in first) but as soon as I hit my turn going into the 75m my body just shut down. Mind you I was swimming at a comfortable place for the first 50m (my coach told me to take it easy). So into my 75 I slowed down and my muscles were dead. I made it to the end with a 1:25 and I was wondering if I could get some advice on endurance. PLEASE!

Hello everyone, I stumbled across this forum by accident and liked the atmosphere. I live in the middle of the Canadian prairies, thousands of kilometers from the nearest ocean but only 40 minutes drive to a salt water lake (mostly magnesium sulphate).
I'm 53, female, and like open water swimming. I've done two Swimtrek tours (Croatia and Gozo/Malta) and a handful of open water races where I managed to not come in dead last.
I swim mostly on my own but do Sunday morning with the local triathlon club as it suits me better than the master's club workouts. One day I may cross over to the dark side and actually do a triathlon on my ancient road bike.
My husband is from the U.K. originally and we travel over every few years, so I hope to get tips on where to swim while there.

I started swimming when I was 8 and started competitions when I was 9. My coach says I am a late bloomer, like everyone has muscles and I am still tall and lanky. I had a broken toe during the long course meet, and I was pretty sick. and short course I wasn't tapered because my coach doesn't like short course. I just finished an 11 day training camp and I feel SUPER FIT, we did 15 sessions, 2 hour training sessions, plus 1 and a half hour dryland, like running, stretch cords, cardio (NO GYM) Like during training now I break 30 seconds in fly, back, free quite easily.

Is it possible for me to drop 3 seconds in my 100 yard fly? I'm a 17 year old senior in HS and I want to break my school's record. I was 54.8 last year, and that was swimming on an injured shoulder at age groups (shaved and tapered). This year, I've been around 55.6-56.0 in my dual meets, and taper season is coming up quite soon. Is it possible for me to meet my goal?

I'm wondering how much swimming it will take to stay nice and toned? My goal is to become "ripped" and I wanna incorporate some running and weights in addition to swimming and playing soccer. I used to swim but haven't swam in over a year now, recently started again and have had difficulty - took me almost 45 min to swim 1 k the other day. What kind of sets/workouts should I do for now to get back into regular swimming and then go a bit hardcore to firm up my whole body? Also, any dry land recommendations? I'm currently 170 lbs, 5'10".

Hello all im new to the forum but not new to competitive swimming. Ive been swimming for awhile now and i would like to say one of my stronger events is 100m fly. Im 17 and a senor in highschool with a time of 58.60 for the event. The time was from my state competition last year. Recently ive been swimming alot slower for myself (1.02). Any who haha my question would be simple. How do i get my time back to its orignial or faster before my next state meet (states feb 17) I feel like my endurance has went down and im willing to put forth the effort to make goal. All advice is welcome
